Step by step: Testing the staircase model of intergroup apologies

چکیده

Despite the assumption that intergroup apologies should lead to forgiveness in same way interpersonal ones do, research suggests this is not case. We report two studies exploring application of Staircase Model Intergroup Apologies (Wohl et al., 2011), which an apology embedded a broader reconciliation process. Participants read accounts conflict (the “Troubles” Northern Ireland) and subsequent efforts achieve reconciliation, focusing on official issued by IRA. The content was varied such steps specified were presented either sequentially (Study 1) or manipulated order 2). Both yielded results broadly supportive model. There significant effects measures forgiveness, perceptions perpetrating group, negative emotion (in particular disgust). implications for enhancing efficacy are discussed.

Step – By – Step

Approaches to formalisation of medical guidelines can be divided into model–centric and document–centric. While model–centric approaches dominate in the development of clinical decision support applications, document–centric, mark–up–based formalisation is suitable for application tasks requiring the 'literal' content of the document to be transferred into the formal model. Examples of such tas...

Step by Step

In most dynamic traffic congestion models, congestion tolls must vary continuously over time to achieve the full optimum. This is also the case in Vickrey's (1969) ‘bottleneck model’. To date, the closest approximations of this ideal in practice have so-called ‘step tolls’, in which the toll takes on different values over discrete time intervals, but is constant within each interval. Given the ...

Step-by-Step Migrations

This paper considers a dynamic model of industry location in which there is a tension between two forces. First, there is the agglomerating force of preference of intermediate input variety that tends to keep an industry at its original location. Second, other location factors matter and these tend to pull the industry in the direction of a new location. A crucial aspect of the model is that th...

Testing Step-nc Implementations

STEP (STandard for the Exchange of Product model data, ISO 10303) data for numerical control, or STEP-NC, is intended to provide full product and process data interoperability between computer-aided manufacturing systems and machine tool controllers. Numerous prototype and several commercial implementations of STEP-NC are currently being developed. Testing is an essential step toward ensuring c...

Reconstructing Generalized Staircase Polygons with Uniform Step Length

Visibility graph reconstruction, which asks us to construct a polygon that has a given visibility graph, is a fundamental problem with unknown complexity (although visibility graph recognition is known to be in PSPACE). We show that two classes of uniform step length polygons can be reconstructed efficiently by finding and removing rectangles formed between consecutive convex boundary vertices ...
